Toshiba Qosmio F755 Notebook with Glasses-Free 3D Arrives in the US

At the beginning of July, Toshiba has announced in the UK the introduction of the Qosmio F750 glasses-free 3D desktop replacement notebook and now, about one month after this release, the system has arrived in the US where it will be known as the Qosmio F755.

Outside of the different name, the notebook packs the same specifications as its European counterpart, including its characteristic parallax screen that can display 3D images without requiring any glasses.

This is similar to the display used in the Nintendo 3DS portable gaming console, but it has now received a new eye tracking system to compensate for the larger screen.

By using this webcam, the owners head is tracked at all times and the notebook adjusts the image displayed to make sure that it won't lose its third dimension.

The only downside to using this method (apart from the questionable quality of the 3D effect) is that it can work at the panel's native 1080p resolution, which forces it to drop to 1366x768.

Moving past the 3D screen, the Qosmio F755 is powered by a quad-core Intel Core i7 2630QM processor with a base clock of 2.0GHz that is seconded by 6GB of system memory and by a 750GB hard drive.

The Qosmio F755 is designed to use both the GPU integrated inside the Core i7 Sandy Bridge processor as well as a discrete Nvidia GeForce GT 540M graphics card with 1GB of dedicated memory, and fully supports the Optimus technology for on-the-fly graphics switching.

The rest of the notebook specifications list includes a Blu-ray writer, Harman Kardon stereo speakers, a multi-card reader, a 1.3 megapixel webcam as well as 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity.

Three USB 2.0 ports are also present, but more important is the inclusion of a USB 3.0 connector that can offer greatly improved transfer speeds over the previous version of the standard.

Toshiba is expected to start selling the Qosmio F755 on August 16, with pricing starting at $1,699. (via Electronista)
