Like most other netbooks developed to run the MeeGo operating system, at the heart of Asus' new Eee PC model stands some very basic hardware, in this case the Intel's N435 processor, which is the slowest Atom Pine Trail CPU to be released until now.
The N435 manages to get this “distinction” by coming with a single 1.33GHz core that is seconded by 512KB of L2 cache.
However, users who require a bit more performance can swap the N435 for an Atom N455 CPU, which also features a single processing core, but it runs it at 1.66GHz instead of 1.33GHz.
The rest of the processor features are pretty much standard for Pine Trail CPUs and both of these chips include Hyper-Threading support as well as an integrated graphics core that is used to drive the 10.1-inch display with a 1024x600 resolution.
Taking a look at the remaining specifications, we get to see that the Eee PC X101 is just as lackluster as the Atom CPUs used to power it, since the netbook packs just 1GB of system memory and a petite 8GB solid state drive as well as the standard 802.11n Wi-Fi, low-res webcam, and optional Bluetooth 3.0.
All of these, together with a 3-cell battery that can deliver up to 4 hours of running time, are packed inside a thin chassis that measures no more than 17.6mm at its thickest point and weights just 950g.
The MeeGo version of the Asus Eee PC X101is now officially available in Germany in red, white, brown or black with a starting price of 169 Euros.
In the not-too-distant future, the Taiwanese company will also release a Windows 7 version of the X101, dubbed the X101H, but this will have a higher retail price. (via Notebook Italia)
